This is something my brother came home with a few months ago for a school project. I’m pretty sure this is supposed to be a way of showing them how to “properly find sources” for a project but at least from my perspective this is an attempt at brainwashing them and telling them how to think. If you have kids, younger siblings, nieces nephews cousins anything always try and take a look at the things they’re showing them in school because this is how they do it, this is why so many people struggle to think for themselves and only believe what’s said through the mainstream media because from childhood they’re taught that that’s the only sources they can trust. “I don’t want a nation of thinkers, I want a nation of workers” -John d Rockefeller.

    1. While I would agree some of these studios are being disingenuous about their leanings, and while I agree that there’s a strong illusion of choice here … I don’t see a huge issue with teaching youth that opinions fall on a spectrum.
Why wouldn’t you want a child to be aware that different media sources offer different spins? They aren’t exactly ready to learn about false dichotomies yet- so this is at least a start.

    2. It does at least get kids thinking about their source… no matter where it falls on the map

Why wouldn’t you want your child to understand the bias of sources. This is teaching them how to think and analyze sources.

People too dumb to look at sources critically are the ones that have problems with this.

Questioning where to place the sources and categorize them is part of the critical thinking process, no?

They have state media outlets towards the top center, and those organizations all show significant bias in one direction or another.

If the exercise is to educate children to seek an understanding of what bias each source has inherently, that may be a good exercise. If the exercise is to suggest some sources are more trustworthy than others, this is pure trash.

    7. I received the same spectrum when I was in high school in the early 2010s. The only thing that’s changed is how many sources there are now, it’s absolutely INSANE how much different news media exists today.
