Larry Silverstein, who is Jewish, leased the Twin Towers just two months before the tragic events of 9/11, securing a 99-year lease on the iconic World Trade Center complex. In the aftermath, he received approximately $4.55 billion in insurance payouts related to the attacks. Silverstein has stated that the only reason he wasn’t at the towers that day was because he had a dermatologist appointment — the one day he missed work, and it happened to be the day the towers were destroyed.
Silverstein is known to maintain close ties with several Israeli prime ministers. Shortly after 9/11, then-Prime Minister Ariel Sharon personally reached out to him. Meanwhile, Benjamin Netanyahu played a key role in urging the United States to take military action against Iraq, targeting Saddam Hussein, who was seen as a significant threat to Israel at the time.
