Melania Trump has threatened to sue Hunter Biden for more than $1 billion in damages if he does not retract comments linking her to the sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.
The son of Joe Biden, the former president, alleged that Epstein introduced Melania to her husband.
In a letter, the first lady’s lawyer, Alejandro Brito, described comments made by Hunter Biden as false, defamatory and “extremely salacious”.
His remarks were spread widely on social media and reported by media outlets around the world, causing the first lady “to suffer overwhelming financial and reputational harm”, Brito wrote.
Biden made the Epstein comments during an interview this month with the British journalist Andrew Callaghan. Biden also lashed out at “elites” and others in the Democratic Party, claiming they had undermined his father’s presidential campaign, forcing him to drop out of last year’s race.

Regardless of whether it’s true that Epstein introduced Donald and Melania to each other (and I don’t see a lot of reason to doubt that it’s true), Hunter Biden is hardly the first person to make that claim.
