This has been reported on before, but it bears reading about in detail. In short, an incompetent Russia-aligned regime that likes to visit autocrats and prate about a single African currency knew an attack was coming, and in response pushed out hundreds of enslaved civilians to dig ditches where they were promptly massacred by Islamists. Of course, the army was not there to defend them, because why would they? The civilians were there to save military lives in this logic.
