I’ve been diving into the Son of Sam case lately, and the more I read, the less it feels like an open-and-shut “lone gunman” story.
Yeah, David Berkowitz confessed to the murders, and the .44 Bulldog tied him to multiple crime scenes… but there are so many details that don’t sit right.
- Witnesses described multiple shooters who didn’t look like Berkowitz.
- Some of his victims swore up and down he wasn’t the guy who pulled the trigger.
- Both Carr brothers — who Berkowitz later said were part of a satanic cult — ended up dead not long after his arrest.
- And then there’s the whole angle of psychological manipulation, even whispers of MKUltra, that make you wonder if Berkowitz was more pawn than mastermind.
The official story is clean and easy: one man, one gun, case closed.
But Berkowitz himself has been saying for decades that he didn’t act alone.
I just recorded a deep dive on this for our podcast, and honestly it left me with more questions than answers. Was Berkowitz a classic serial killer, or was he a foot soldier in something bigger — maybe even something sanctioned?
Curious to hear from this community: do you think Berkowitz acted alone, or was Son of Sam a cult operation that went way deeper than the NYPD ever admitted?
