I have a deep feeling this recent news is one of those “more than meets the eye” situations.
Historically, the US government put its hands into industries it needed for war like steel, oil, aviation, munitions, etc. Now it’s semiconductors, maybe rare earths next (Ukraine Russia deal) & other things we’ll see over time that will not be framed as war prep but will eventually seem like it when viewed as a whole.
Maybe I’m reaching but this feels like a quiet shift into wartime economics without calling it war. Ownership as armament & ownership to maintain influence; maybe even tangentially allowing the government more access to information they would originally need warrants for but don’t need now as the information is “theirs”.
All this reminds me of Silent Weapons for Quiet Wars; overall manipulation of the economy to essentially manipulate the populace & manufacture wars to largely affect the economy.

SS: this recent announcement reads like socialism to everyone else but this is either Dirigiste economics or the beginning of war prep for a determined conflict we’ll be a part of relatively soon. Linked my blog post that details more of my stance on it but it’s not really necessary reading to get the gist.
