Any more-informed people have a clue why this happened? My best guess is that since Botswana is landlocked they are reliant on the infrastructure of neighbouring nations for logistics and transportation, which may be rendered moot given strife in other countries
But even then, I don’t know.

Would have been the exact sort of situation USAID would have been perfect for but monsters run the world and we can’t have nice things. Hope they’re able to recover from this and can continue to diversify away from the diamond industry so they’re more shielded from downturns in the market in the future.
