“Backlash” in the headline kind of makes it seem like MAGA is responding to public pressure. The slowdown seems almost entirely related to Trump’s immigration raids / capture quotas moving through the courts. Though I’m sure running out of easy targets is playing a role too ([no-show](https://cis.org/Arthur/Immigration-Court-NoShows-Increase-Backlog-Falls-and-Asylum-Denials-Rise) immigration hearings are up 31% compared to 2024).

Meanwhile, [ICE just arrested Kilmar Abrego Garcia again](https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/kilmar-abrego-garcia-ice-check-in-rcna226866), and they plan to deport him to Uganda.
