then again, getting scammed by countries with a modicum of diplomatic skill is nothing new for the Trump administration. I don’t think the PRC is going to buy however many billions worth of US goods they agreed to in 2020

Witkoff completely bungling this and putting the onus on Russia to shoot down what everyone knew wasn’t going to happen except Trump may be a good thing.
At the end of the day even if there aren’t new sanctions, Trump being more miffed at Russia than Ukraine is a good thing. Trump has raised no objections to Ukraine’s concerted energy infrastructure attacks, and the PURL initiative is going well so far. The U.S. also expressing clear interest in backing security guarantees is good.
I think Putin’s gambit to turn Trump against Ukraine again failed in large part because this admin is dumb as fuck
