It’s a high risk high reward gamble. As they say down in Texas. Go big or go home.

Do elites fear the far-right? Aren’t they members of far-right? Study on South Korea shows that higher income, more educated people are likely to be more far-right. In PhD level, 40% is estimated to harbor far-right tendency while lower income and less educated people are much less inclined to harbor far-right tendencies.
The obvious: elites love the far right, because when you put up a cordon sanitaire around far right, then every parliamentary majority needs the center-left to function.
In Germany, SPD has been a part of EVERY governing coalition since 2013 elections, that is the first elections after the creation of AfD.
