  1. “The Russian invasion of Ukraine is a existential risk to Europe that threatens to bring the whole thing down – but is not so existential a risk to warrant a shock to the Euro” seems to be what this minister says. Others cite energy risks, there’s a million other excuses too.

    For what it’s worth, I think it’s closer to the first thing. Russia is a terrible threat to Eastern Europe (though I don’t think that all the conventional war machines Russia could bring to bear could stop the European project).

    But I don’t think many European ministers, especially from Western and Central Europe *actually believe that*. Or maybe they just don’t care.
