Basically populist right want to eat their cake and still have it with immigration. They want the economic benefits allowing them to come over and work, but they don’t want them to stay there for anything more but work.
I don’t see how that’s going to be healthy in the long term for aging countries like Italy. It seems soon the majority of its workforce are foreign born and a good part of their labor is going to get leeched off by the elderly with their generous state hand outs. Not to mention what happens if the source of these kind of immigrants dries up. The areas stabilize economically enough that working in a xenophobic place that hates you just isn’t a dignified way to make a living.
