APTA’s 2025 fact book highlights five consecutive years of ridership growth

  1. * 77% of federal transit funds support private businesses through contracts, services and supply chains.
    * Ridership is growing consistently with trips up from 4.81 billion in 2021, increasing 59% to reach the 2024 figure [of 7.66 billion].
    * Transit systems throughout the U.S. continue to grow, reaching 26 bus rapid transit systems, 48 surface rail systems, 37 regional railroad systems and 16 heavy rail systems.
