Anyway I think Carney needs to shoot doug ford (in minecraft) and forcibly pass zoning reform. Without the biggest province on deck every other province will get tons of people fleeing housing prices; hell, look what’s happened to the Maritimes since COVID

Not gonna lie I’m kinda sour on this Build Canada Homes plan, particularly the part where they plan to do factory-built, modular homes, for the simple reason is that there just isn’t demand for these types of homes.
I don’t think there’s a single example of a modular homes business being successful at scale. I can, however, ask ChatGPT or Google for numerous examples of failures. It’s pretty easy to see why given that people don’t want to live in replicated houses that are just inferior suburban homes with less amenities and far more monotone. Even if the costs were lower I doubt that people would want to buy them.
Really, like the other comment said, there should be a focus on easing provincial rules on zoning. Personally, I’d like an emphasis on medium density. Even though I live in a suburb, I’d prefer to not have the same kind of sprawl that characterizes large swathes in the USA.
