Christ, I’m going to have to start making concrete plans for what to do if I’m forced back to Europe, aren’t I? I barely even speak my “native” language any more. I’ve been here since I was eight. This is cruelty for cruelty’s sake.
Farage has pledged to scrap permanent residency/ILR altogether within 100 days of taking office. This includes revoking the status of all current permanent residents who would need to apply for a visa or face deportation.
Alongside this, work visa sponsors would need to pay a “training levy” to cover the full costs of training a British citizen for the role. How this would be calculated is not specified — perhaps a nice round $100,000?
To round things off he would also ban dual citizenship at the same time. No word on whether this would apply to EU citizens but as Farage has been vocal about tearing up the withdrawal agreement…
Suffice to say that I am 0% relieved that even if we can naturalise before a hypothetical Reform victory, this would only guarantee us front row seats to watching Britain speed run total economic collapse as we deport a double digit percentage of the workforce.
Any chance we can let the Americans try this one first and see how it goes? I normally look to news from back home to remind me how normal and sane things are in Britain, but this is one of the rare cases where British politics is actually *more* insane.

There are definitely things I might change in terms of specific immigration laws and policy (in the US, and whatever their equivalents may be as they exist in other countries).
But the outright temper tantrum/cruel/virtue signaling turn against immigration that they’re doing is categorical, and might be the biggest own goal that Western countries have ever committed.
