If he gets anything more than 1 year without option of a fine, he can’t be a member of Parliament for 5 years after the sentence is complete.
If he gets a prison sentence, the EFF will have to elect a new leader. Local government elections are next year. The EFF has always been run by Malema in a somewhat authoritarian fashion. Will they be able to rapidly hold leadership elections and run a campaign without tearing themselves apart? They already lost many of their most prominent leaders to MK.
If Malema is imprisoned, the EFF could collapse unless an exceptional leadership team takes charge.
