I’m wondering if we’ll see an impact in online propaganda and censorship.

How about those 87,000 “IRS agents”?

100,000 resignations before the shutdown is wild.

What are these jobs? Do we really need them all?

Is it me or he is purposefully doing this pre-emptive of a false flag so he can blame the “domestic insurgents/terrorists”. He’s been putting boots on the ground of every metro area tiptoe, but if a false flag is raised he’ll garner more support for his own instigated acts of terrorism against the nation.

Why can’t people see this? We’ve been here before a few times in history.

    2. The govnt is pretty good at wasting money but now with the new head of state from the lovely J state of I, they need more money to fund to it. How else do you expect them to pay off officials, lobbyists, influencers, bribes, country take overs? It would be pretty nice if we the people would just stop funding it ourselves.

    3. I really don’t understand why anyone would resign right before a shutdown. They are guaranteed back pay after the shut down is over even if they are furloughed so what is the down side?

Roughly 750,000 of government employees being deemed non essential is probably a generous number.  Should probably be closer to half.

The media spun that 100K resignation as some coordinated event led by federal employees. It was part of the Deferred Resignation Program that Trump and Musk scared folks into earlier this year. They threatened mass firings early on without the “audit” DOGE promised you and people thought the DRP was their best chance in comparison. In recent months, the admin attempted to rescind those offers because they realized they let go of too many people.

    6. A ‘non-essential’ position means they’re not absolutely critical to national security, public safety, and readiness. It doesn’t mean they’re useless.

I hate it when the term “Gov’t shutdown” is used. Are taxes going to stop coming out of my check? Is the Federal Prison system ceasing Operations? Are US bombs suddenly not being dropped overseas? Is the mail not going to get delivered? Is my personal online FBI spy guy laid off? Are politicians going to stop lying? Well then, the government ain’t shut down.

A lot of other stuff could be cut, but I think we need IRS agents in order to try to catch billionaire tax cheats.

Unfortunately, DOGE’s cuts tended to target the youngest and most recently hired employees, not necessarily the most incompetent employees. I could see a DOGE that aimed to cut incompetent employees, but in practice DOGE ended up firing some new, competent employees who had been hired to do the work of lazy older employees who couldn’t be fired.

As one who worked for years at the federal level and a few more with various state agencies, the number of useless government employees is probably closer to 50%.

Cut the ones who farm out their work to contractors at insane rates (yes I benefited from this at one point, I understand the hypocrisy), cut the contractors. Pay the good ones more competitive rates in line with industry to attract top talent. Prosper.

I love when they close the National Parks because the people who take your money at the gate are nonessential. The mountains of Glacier NP are nonessential, I guess.

    11. Oh no! Now the chair force will have to do something. Sounds like a good time for a PT test and a weigh in.

    12. He knows more about chaos and creating dystopias than anyone. If he is so good why is he resorting to this?

It is said that a great leader is often judged by how much they dont have to do and how unseen they can be, this man does neither.

Aren’t they furloughed / on vacation and then when they come back they get their lost pay from the time off? Sounds like a win for them
