We shall soon see the EUs CBAM come into effect hopefully with positive results. While it is true that CBAMs can disproportionately impact low-income nations, I think they are an ultimately necessary tool for combatting climate change. Imo the best way to counteract the regressive effects of CBAMs is through providing low-income nations with access to green technologies and research at dramatically reduced prices so as to accelerate their transition to having low emissions without compromising their potential for growth. In addition, carbon taxes and CBAMs ought to be paired with green subsidies, especially basic research, as they provide strong positive externalities and can further help in the fight against climate change.
