India’s in a bit of a rough spot right now really. For obvious reasons, it is difficult to make inroads with the new Islamist government that deposed the pro-India dictator but at the same time, India really cannot allow Bangladesh to fall firmly into the Chinese sphere of influence. Furthermore its firm allies by its borders are also actively being influenced by China and if the Indian government slips, it might find said form allies are no longer as firm some five or ten years down the line. It’s not a position I’d much want to be in. Funny really, India manages to be friendly with just about everyone except for the countries it’s closest to.
