Bioethics is a tricky thing. We don’t even agree on it within the west with various people having radically different and strongly held views about what is acceptable to do to human embryos, human fetuses, and animals.
I do think only looking at the negatives of China’s investment in life science research is a huge mistake though. Whether China or the US develops effective medical treatments, they will rapidly spread throughout the world and improve people’s lives. If this is an arms race, then it’s a far better one than than missile and drone development.

This article is giving “every generation thinks it invented sex” because machine learning has been used in biology for a very long time.
It’s my least favorite genre of AI article, people who act like they’re missionaries preaching the gospel to a bunch of backwards savages lol
