My favorite part of this whole debacle is people hand waving/giving latitude to a Nazi tattoo and finding every excuse in the book to defend it. While on the other hand, if it came out that Janet Mills had a KKK tattoo, the same people would light her up and call it disqualifying.
While it’s very easy for me to just say that if my preferred candidate in a democratic primary had a Nazi tattoo, I would simply just vote for the other Democrat lmao. These people are lunatics.
The same people asking this are the same ones saying that Democrats need to hate trans people, abortion, and immigrants in order to win.
Dems need to reach out and appeal to a wider range of voters. That’s… Math. That means we need candidates that can talk and appeal to voters Dems have either ignored or even antagonized in recent years. Clarifying and broadening our messaging to widen our appeal is important stuff. New blood is a part of that.
But you’re not going to net more voters by going all in on some guy no one knew three months ago and has a barrage of gross crap coming out about him just because the Sanders left values shitting on “establishment” Dems more than they value winning elections. I’m not bit on tossing people away as irredeemable. Platner has a place in the coalition. Hell, if he wants to run for something more local and his community supports him eyes wide open, cool. But there’s no responsible reason to run him with no experience, tons of baggage, a likelihood he’s lying about at least some of it, and plenty of time to identify a better candidate for the US Senate. The moment calls for a far more serious approach to a must win election.
Setting aside whether or not the tattoo is disqualifying in and of itself, just look at the state of this campaign the past week and a half. The Reddit account scandal, this tattoo and the “dog ate my homework” tier excuse for it which has been quickly disputed by multiple sources, and his campaign manager *and* their replacement both resigning.
Does this look like a winning campaign to you? Is this really the guy we want to be running in one of the most highly contested senate races in the entire midterm? Mills may be an uninspiring alternative but come on, this is an amateur hour campaign
The tattoo in question is a skull and crossbones, right? Seems like it has a much bigger association with pirates than with nazis. Am I missing something

Looks like the geriatric is going to win the nomination, the media is spinning too much yarn over Platner’s dying candidacy. Aside from certain basket of deplorable online spaces, having a Nazi-inspired tattoo is really really bad and the polling of the Democrat base wasn’t looking winnable for Platner even before the reveal. It’ll take an equally large and disgusting bombshell of Mills to give him a fighting chance.
