I feel like EU-China diplomacy is like a teenage pull-push flirting phase. In public both accept to be friendly and solve issues but each take defensive measure that the other perceive as offensive. I wonder how much of it is simply inter-cultural misunderstanding. This is sad because all two need to cooperate (with India too) in order to stabilize Eurasia as they have common interests different from the ones of the global Ocean and against the many warlords regimes polluting trade (Russia, Iran, Israel, Afganistan, Myanmar, Houthis)
