This is mostly a temporary band aid fix for the issue of Indian students getting funneled to diploma mills.

Given the problem is fraudulent certification, it would seem like the solution would be to create a new government agency or expand existing ones to handle permission for Indian students. Or offload this administrative task to private organizations, but with strict vetting such that they meet standards of validation.

Unfortunately unless the college or university is highly credible like UofT or UBC I don’t really trust colleges or universities themselves to handle this process, given the current state of affairs

  2. omg this is so complicated.. like i get they’re worried about fraud but shouldn’t they focus on fixing the verification process rather than just rejecting everyone?? that seems super unfair to legit students.

  3. I will say, having dealt with Indian students and visa agents in a previous job, there is a fair amount of fraud. Indian visa agents can be pretty unscrupulous and are known to coach students aggressively, offering fraudulent documents or depositing money in a bank account (with interest) to show sufficient finances.

Maybe 74% is too high, but a Punjabi or Gujarati student going to a no-name college in the Midwest and adjusting status or overstaying, at least in the U.S., is fairly common.
