TLDR the bust was acquired legally from the Egyptian government but at the time the Egyptian Khedivate was formally a province of the Ottoman Empire and in all but name a joint protectorate of the United Kingdom and France, the sovereignty of Egypt being dubious therefore makes Egypt’s past consent to the acquisition equally dubious.

    As an archaeologist, im all for looted artifacts to safely return to the country from which they were excavated.

  3. imo Egypt has no particular claim to artifacts so long ago. There’s no real cultural continuity so I think it’s fair to consider them the common heritage of humanity.
