As an American scientist (naturalized immigrant!) who collaborates with Canadian scientists – I genuinely don’t think the research situation in Canada is any better. Maybe at premier institutions, but a lot of folks I work with really depend on sub-awards from US funding agencies (or, well, did before the current administration).
I sincerely hope the research outlook improves worldwide, but most folks looking to jump ship from the US are in for a shock when it comes to salaries, funding reliability and grant amounts.
