Most cooked up the story that it was at Ellis Island but horn says that’s incorrect it was mostly through the courts which saw tenss of thousands of name changes because of the prevaisive bigotry . Job employment ,social status just having a Jewish last name made things hard and many sought to change it

At Ellis Island, they changed Phil Leotardo’s grandfather’s name from Leonardo to Leotardo. Because they’re stupid. And jealous.

I mean this in general tracks with name discrimination in hiring of candidates with the same work experience. EEO employers even have historically had about the same amount of bias against [Black candidates vs white candidates with the same experience](https://www.nber.org/papers/w9873).

That’s really sad. People shouldn’t have to give up their Own Name. Names are so important
