US President Donald Trump has threatened to cut aid to Honduras if Nasry Asfura, of the right-wing National Party, is unsuccessful in the presidential election
The Honduran presidential candidate backed by US President Donald Trump maintained a slim lead in the tight race, preliminary results showed early on Monday.
Nasry "Tito" Asfura of the right-wing National Party had about 41% of the votes in early counting, followed by Liberal Party contender Salvador Nasralla with about 39%. Rixi Moncada of the ruling LIBRE party trailed at around 20%.
A little more than 40% of ballots have been counted till early Monday.
Both Asfura and Nasralla contended that it was too premature to claim victory.
The winner with a simple majority will govern the Central American country from 2026 to 2030.

Overall a mixed bag. But in general, this Elections were a big Victory for LATAM
**The Positives**
* Above all, Election have been peaceful with no mayor conflict reported. That’s a huge win, considering the fear of potential Electoral Crisis was high
* LIBRE , the Far Left Party allied with Venezuela-Cuba, claimed Victory. But the early vote is such an overwhelmingly against them, they will have to accept defeat eventually
* Congress divided in 3, ensuring parties need some compromise to pass any law

**The Bad**
* Trump Candidate still hold the slightest lead (just +0,25% of the vote)
* Electoral Reports (as people feared) were subpar. Taking ages to have results, making the system untrustworthy
* If Tito Asfura won, most likely, Trump will pardon a convicted drug lord
* This election will take days to be decided, and will be heavily contested, not matter who wins at the end

**Final Conclusion for LATAM in 2025**
Geo-Politically, this has been the absolute worse year for Cuba-Venezuela-Nicaragua alliance.
They had catastrophic setbacks, zero chances for growth, and big external and internal pressure for Regime change
The pipe dream of Democratize the entire Americas…doesn’t sound as farfetched now
