God I’ve been waiting to post this all day but didn’t have gift articles to spare. This is one of those issues that you don’t really think about as a consumer but must be hell for firms and its absolutely buggering the common market. The last time Europe was forced to standardise, it took Napoleon Bonaparte. Who shall be the valiant one today?

Befoe readign it I already knew the answer. Every national govenrmetn adding their own regulation and the EC either does not fight them or adds an extra layer, ensuring the single market will remain forever fragmented.

Eh, I always find this framing a bit… weird? Like, yeah, it’s extra work to translate stuff into all the different languages of all the different EU countries… but that’s how selling stuff in different countries works. I do think harmonizing regulations more is a good idea, but I don’t see how there’d be one silver bullet solution that fixes the issue. It’s just going to take a lot of time and work to get everyone on the same page for all the different rules we have.

Eh, I always find this framing a bit… weird?
