Some additional backstory for those interested: this whole thing has been going on for a while now with the SPD stating they wouldn’t compromise on it leading to some very pathetic and symbolic offers from the top Union brass to the young group like “we’ll add language to the bill stating we’re totally going to pass actual reform in the next couple of years”. I’m not surprised this little rebellion didn’t lead to anything since basically every party in the Bundestag is officially in favour of keeping pensions high (or raising them), but it has been an entertaining little trainwreck to watch unfold from an optics perspective.

What an idiot Merz is, is spent years criticizing Merkel from the backbench because he’s a sore loser, and now we see he can’t even control a Groko government.
Also I’m surprised it’s the German youth who want to to reform the system, in France they support increasing it.
