DER SPIEGEL has obtained notes from a conference call involving EU leaders – including Germany’s Friedrich Merz and France’s Emmanuel Macron – showing just how little trust Europe has in Washington.

Yeah, no shit. I’m glad they’re all on the same page.

I’m curious about the mechanics of these calls. It seems like the leaked notes were in English (those these could be a post hoc translation) though none of the participants were from English speaking countries. I know a bunch of them speak exceptional English but at least a few of them don’t so I’m always curious about how they work in practice.

Edit: Actually I think I’m wrong, I think they do all speak English. So I guess they just speak English rather than piss around with translators.
