I’m all for that. Deadbeat dad or not, they took part in the creation of that child. So, they need to pay for their half of the expense of the birth and hospital and such, instead of leaving the mother to deal with it all. IMO, in cases of rape, and the mother decides to keep it, the father should have to pay 100% of the expenses. Even if it means bankruptcy and going into major debt, even in prison.
