Previously it was reported that [Alberta was going to shield 3 transgender bills from judicial review by invoking the notwithstanding clause](https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/alberta-government-notwithstanding-clause-bills-9.6983786). Early this morning they have both passed these three bills and invoked the notwithstanding clause. This marks the fourth time that Smith’s UCP government has used the notwithstanding clause in under two months time. The previous use of this clause was a back to work order for striking teachers.
