  1. Submission statement: Western car manufacturers are struggling to compete against Chinese EVs

Why this is important to r/Neoliberal: I think protectionism will continue to rise. However, the UK has simply accepted Chinese EVs and is quite open to free trade

  2. Complaining about China making small inexpensive cars at the same time rolling out their new Child Crusher 3000 with lifted wheels and blinding lasers for headlights that gets 10 miles to the gallon and optional rolling coal package.

    >“We know we’re in a fight for our lives in our industry,”

I want to grab this guy by the shoulders and remind him that his company basically has a captive market in the US due to government intervention *that Ford asked for*.

    1. The Chicken Tax effectively means no foreign-made cars can compete with American companies *within the best selling segment of the automobile industry – pickup trucks*.

    2. There is a 100% tariff on Chinese cars in the US.

    3. There is essentially (not as written, but in practice) an import ban on non-American cars that aren’t older than 25 years.

    4. Plus all the subsidies, government contracts and the like Ford has received.

    5. Having carved out emissions exemptions for light trucks so you can sell more SUVs and Pickups.

All of these things are things Ford themselves lobbied and asked for as well.

Imagine basically having an extremely rich market of 350million people basically rigged to guarantee your success and then saying “we’re fighting for our lives” get the fuck out of here. You know who’s actually fighting for their lives? Companies like Mazda and Subaru who, despite having the deck massively stacked against them both in their domestic market and abroad, still make better cars than Ford.

  4. Well you hate your EVs, especially your dealers. I should know I lease one!

So keep shooting yourself in the femoral and complaining it hurts to walk.

This is really the end result of years of greed from American automakers who refused to innovate or adapt. Year after year, they posted solid profits, yet now they’re crying about being unable to compete with Chinese manufacturers?

The American century of humiliation continues.
