Danielle Smith and two other UCP MLAs face a recall vote. A total of 20 other recall votes are in progress, with the NDP’s Amanda Chapman also facing a recall petition. Smith’s recall petition states that Smith has ignored her constituents and experts in pursuing policies. Smith denies this allegation and claims that the petition process is being weaponized. She states the recall process is to address serious ethical breaches rather than resolve policy disputes. Smith previously has also suggested that the recall process should be changed, but there are no plans currently in the fall legislative session to change the process.

recalls are the dumbest thing everrrr omg. never heard of something more anti democratic than “hurr durr, just find 500 trolls (only trolls would genuinely sign a recall) and get them to sign a petition and force millions of people into an expensive early election that is 100% set to lose”
in this case theyre recalling half of the legislature from every single party. if you’re not satisfied with your government, you wait for next election and vote accordingly.
