Some of this sounds good but some of it will never happen. We seem to not be willing to offer anything to Canada and just want demands. Working with Canada could help the US far more than any other country, I believe, so it’s disappointing we’re not taking it seriously.

If these actually are the price of a CUSMA extension through the rest of Trump’s term we should leap at the chance. It’s not like Canadians are going to actually buy American milk or booze at this point in significant numbers given the boycott. The main worry though is they just invent new grievances later.

Why is protectionism only bad when America does it. Ending Canadian protectionism is also a good thing independent of whatever America is doing.

I really don’t trust that the U.S. is negotiating in good faith and that there will frankly be other contrived issues that will appear the moment that we blink on these.
