Good, these politicians on both sides rage against cost of living increase, and then gleefully raise property taxes year after year (local sports teams exempt, of course)

I might sound biased, be use I am – but this is an organically made movement thanks to Governor Ron DeSantis. He’s been more and more vocal about the issue of property taxes weighing heavily on Floridians. His proposal is to eliminate them altogether – which would require a constitutional amendment. Which is doable in Florida. The Florida legislature is currently debating different ways to go about at least drastically lowering property taxes for folks. Of course this would not apply to commercial properties, and it would be limited to one’s own Homestead (not a property used for Airbnb, rented out, etc).
It boggles my mind to think back a few decades ago I was graduating college, all my family had moved to different states, and I was choosing between California and Florida. And I chose Florida. Best thing I ever did.

Florida metro areas are spread out. I lived in an Orlando suburb for years, a quiet, calm, low key, (very) low crime piece of happiness. The touristas were like an hour away from me. There is an actual City north of Disney and the attractions. Lived near Miami too, same deal, but to a lesser extent. Thing is with South Florida. Everything is constrained so there’s no room to spread out anymore, you go east, and you hit the Atlantic ocean, you go west and you hit the Everglades, and those are protected, and rightfully so.
I now live in the Tampa St Pete area, and it’s a really good mix.

Small town life can be kick ass too, though!
