Frequent Use of Short-Form Videos on Infinite-Scroll Platforms
A large new study involving nearly 100,000 people has found that frequent use of short-form videos on infinite-scroll platforms is linked to weaker thinking skills and poorer emotional health.
Heavy users showed lower attention, reduced self-control, and weaker basic reasoning, along with higher levels of anxiety, stress, and depression.
Researchers say constant exposure to fast, highly stimulating content may make it harder for the brain to handle slower tasks like reading or problem-solving. While the study shows a link and not direct cause, scientists warn that excessive short-form video use could contribute to long-term cognitive decline.

I encourage everyone to look for the truth directly from the people who built these systems. Many of them now openly explain how these platforms were designed to shape our habits, influence our decisions, and quietly embed themselves into the fabric of our daily lives. Listening to them is often more revealing than any study.

I think it’s obvious it’s damaging though I would also argue that endless scrolls of pointless short video content naturally selects for users with lower reasoning and problem solving skills. People who enjoy problem solving don’t seem as likely to get sucked into watching a bunch of dumb memes and dance videos.
