The cool thing about having a regarded populace is that Republicans will pull this shit, campaign on being the candidates of peace, and get rewarded in elections for it.
I gotta say, from a “state of the world” perspective I just can’t see why we’re even doing this.
First things first, wars spike the price of oil. That helps Russia who’s been trying to sell their oil but is struggling. It also hurts Trump locally since oil getting expensive will spur inflation and generic costs.
Second, it distracts us from issues that we should actually be dealing with or preparing for (China and Taiwan, Ukraine, domestic issues).
Lastly, there’s no real benefits from this. Regime change? Ok, Maduro has been opposed to the US but hasn’t really done anything. Oil? The oil we already get for cheap since we’re one of the only places that can really refine their oil. Distraction from the Epstein files? For how long? And only as long as this doesn’t become a quagmire itself.

This war is going to be fought for neither ideology or resources, and certainly not for drugs. It is going to be for the content. Yes, the content. That’s the main reason for the Caribbean slaughter as well. It is for the thrill of violence and domination against those who are deemed deserving targets, which means brown people. Maybe it is to steal oil in part, but the motivation would be the act of stealing in itself, rather than what is stolen. That is after all what Donald Trump seemed to imply about Iraq all those years ago.
For the modern American reactionary, the purpose of war is to generate snuff pornography. They are killing people not to defend against something, not to acquire something and not because they believe in something, but because they want to feel something. The spectacle of it all gives them a rush. Isn’t that just pornography? Videos of today’s events will also become pornography.
Many people see themselves as savvy when they put material motivations at the centre of MAGA imperialism, and dismiss anything else as naive. But if anything, this account is far more grim. Fuck. I remember there being a lot of disinformation during the first few days of the invasion of Ukraine and this will probably be just as bad. There are rumors of US helicopters in the mainland, and asaualts on Venezuelan islands. Fuck me its gonna take awhile to see what ends up being true.
