Why Haven’t Trump’s Tariffs Had a Bigger Impact? (Actual tariff rates are lower than advertised and companies are doing tariff evasion)

Submission statement: one of the sub’s core values is free trade, and while tariffs have been bad, they have not had the apocalyptic effects many were expecting. This article cites a bunch of different economic reports to explain why, ultimately concluding that tariff rates are actually lower than what they were announced as, (in part due to many exceptions) and many companies do tariff evasion. The reports also show that American consumers are paying about 94% of the cost of the tariffs, up from 80% in 2018.
