Maduro has a history of using bold, upbeat public imagery even in adverse situations. Expecting him to look defeated wouldn’t align with how he (or many similar figures) handles public perception.

    I am sure this idea has been discussed, but he wanted to save face and allowed himself to be taken into custody and go out with his machismo intact while secretly surrendering and apparently embracing his captivity.
