This is the Sackler family. Responsible for thousands of overdose deaths and thousands more that are alive that are struggling with addiction. Families ruined. No jail time. US Vice Pres. Vance cares more about nuking a Venezuela boat but not these folks. Never forget.

That was in primary care during the height of the open epidemic and when OxyContin came out. They paid people to come in and talk to Family doctors about using OxyContin. They said you could use it for anything ankle sprains, postop pain even minor pain. At the time they told us not worry about people getting addicted to it. After seeing what it did, I told one of the drug reps that I wouldn’t give it to my dog. About two weeks later I was offered $1500 to fly somewhere for a consultation for a couple of days in New Jersey ? I did not take the offer. Their marketing was aggressive and horrible.
They also destroyed our opiate prescribing system. Doctors are more likely to either give you Ibuprofen + Acetaminophen or will give you a gabapentinoid instead. Personally, I don’t need pain meds, but I was on Lyrica (pregabalin, a gabapentinoid) for my epilepsy.
They suddenly took me off of Pregabalin while I was in the hospital on a 5 day EEG stay while I was in the middle of tapering off properly and I did NOT expect those withdrawals to be so bad. My case is different because it wasn’t a pain med, but they’re just prescribing less effective but still very addictive pain pills now. Anyone who really needs opiates for pain isn’t being prescribed them because we went from over-prescription to under-prescription. If it weren’t for such gross under-prescription, less people would be forced to turn to illicit methods like using fentanyl or kratom extracts.
All of this comes directly out of the Sackler family’s actions. They really messed this country up in a lot of ways, not just medical either.
