  1. Submission statement: After the strikes in Venezuela and the taking of Maduro by the United States, Trump and Rubio now criticise Cuba. Yesterday, Trump said that “Cuba is going to be something we’ll end up talking about, because Cuba is a failing nation right now, a very badly failing nation, and we want to help the people.” He continued by comparing Cuba to Venezuela and stating that “[i]t’s very similar [to Venezuela] in the sense that we want to help the people in Cuba, but we want to also help the people that were forced out of Cuba and are living in this country.” Today, Rubio said that Cuba is “in a lot of trouble,” and added that “[i]f I lived in Havana and I was in the government, I’d be concerned.”

In my opinion, considering that the U.S. Government actually followed through with their threats against Maduro, these remarks by Trump and Rubio should not be seen as bluffing. I do wonder how quickly an operation against Cuba could commence and what it would look like exactly. A snatch-and-grab operation like with Maduro against Cuba’s president would probably not yield the desired results. Then again, we don’t even know yet if ‘Operation Absolute Resolve’ will yield the outcome that is desired by the Trump administration.

  2. Yeah, Diaz Canel may be the next one to get arrested for all we know. I think it’s probably not gonna happen but I won’t totally rule it out either

We already cut their ability to receive Venezuelan oil. Delcy is probably not even thinking about Havana, Cuba’s enforcers in Venezuela were cut down in the dark, and a smooth transition away from Chavismo is possible in the next 12 months with the right coercion and amnesty.

Considering how it went for Iran after Israel repeatedly said they were attacking and how it just went for Maduro after the US strongly implied it was attacking I am going to say it is all but guaranteed that the Cuban regime is getting hit within the next year.

  5. Cuba has little strategic value, it’s more a pet project at this point. Now, Cuba might collapse without Venezuelan oil, which would make it easy for the US to sweep in and play “peacekeeper” for a democratic transition, but I’m not sure how likely any of that is. It’s possible, perhaps even plausible, but maybe not likely. Regardless, if I were in Cuban leadership, I would feel a bit concerned and perhaps practice my hide and seek skills.

  6. Good. Communism shouldn’t feel comfortable on this hemisphere. Monroe Doctrine. Anyone who aligns themselves with theocratic Iranians, dictatorial Venezuelans, and forever-in-power Chinese doesn’t belong anywhere near the US.
