With DeepSeek it looks like China has highlighted a genuine missed opportunity here.
Facing restrictions on GPU tech they have been inadvertently forced to seek alternative, cheaper methods of advancing their AI and they found it.
They can now train their models for a fraction of the GPU compute cost of Western alternatives but thats not the part that bothers me.
Despite this being known for quite some time now (since DS first dropped) and yet we are still seeing the main players opt to stick with more GPUs, more cost, means more better.
The levels of overlapping investment from the likes of Nvidia and the AI companies are increasing all the time.
So even though we are now aware of a more efficient, cheaper and greener method of training, we are not seeing it be adopted by the larger players as of yet.
The talk of an AI bubble seems to get opposed strongly by those with money in the game but it does seem to hold water the more you look at it.
Theres no way the constant higher costs, higher investment model can be sustained forever, so why then is it not being addressed?
What do you guys think, am I missing something? is there even an AI bubble at all? (I think there is, and we are seeing greed fuel it).

Bubbles tend to just be Ponzie schemes. If you follow the money it looks like a gaint circle of companies passing money around with owners and executives taking out money along the way and replenishing it with investors money. Once they collapse the innovations become dirt cheap and the public gets the benefits, if there ever were any benefits.

I think it is in part corporate greed, but not really.
The unprecedented investment in AI exists because a small, powerful group sees it as a path to immortality and living as gods. Governments see it as a tool for total control and military power, and they are not wrong we are already starting to see it. In their view, this is a genie in a bottle, and they are all in on being the ones who hold it first.
The best case scenario is that this fails to scale into true AGI. We may be missing something fundamental, hit a real plateau, and AI settles into everyday life as a powerful but limited tool. It enhances productivity and convenience without replacing human value. No one becomes immortal, no one becomes all powerful, and society continues on.
The darker path is they succeed they get to control it for a time, this I think is when we see they weren’t joking about us being useless eaters, as the vast majority of populations start to be phased out.
The darkest reality is who is funding this race. Billionaires and investment groups are pouring hundreds of billions into AI after extracting that wealth from global labor, time, and resources, often through rigged systems. That accumulated value is now being funneled back into consolidating their own power in a way humanity has never seen before, with the costs and risks distributed across everyone else on the planet.
On the backs of every human throughout human history a few want to invest all of it into themselves on a bet to live as gods with no one’s consent or vote, and they might very well succeed absolutely no one is going to do anything to stop them no one is coming to save us and the government is empowering them.
