Net migration is the number of people entering the country minus the number of people exiting the country. The graph is a bit confusing in the way that it’s drawn.

Dark blue is the net change in illegal immigrants, aside from deportations. That would be the number of new illegal immigrants entering the country minus the number voluntarily self-deporting. This comes out to be -310,000 this past year.

Green is the official number of deportations, excluding those that occur right at the border and therefore don’t contribute to net migration. This comes out to be -285,000 this past year. The author keeps this in a separate category because she claims these numbers have been inaccurate in the past.

The confusing part is the light blue category, which are legal immigrants. As you can see from the bars for the previous years, this is a stacked bar chart, with the net legal immigrants bar starting at the tip of the net illegal immigrants bar, which is negative this year, so most of the legal immigration is just getting back to net 0 and can’t be seen in the graph. There were approximately 1 million legal immigrants this past year.

The tip of the legal immigrants bar is then the total net migration, excluding deportations (which again the author considers to have high uncertainty), which looks like it would be just over 500,000 this past year. Including deportations, assuming the numbers are accurate, net migration would be about half that amount, approximately 2 million less than the previous year, under Biden.

  2. The fact over 2 MILLION undocumented immigrants made their way into the US under Crooked Joe’s watch is frightening. Rapists, terrorists, murderers. You name em

  3. We need to massively increase the rate of deportations. At this rate it will take almost 100 years to undo the damage done.
