Submission statement: Economic news from the US. Preliminary, but significant difference from expectations.

Here is the BLS release: https://www.bls.gov/news.release/prod2.nr0.htm

    > Nonfarm business sector labor productivity increased 4.9 percent in the third quarter of 2025, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today, as output increased 5.4 percent and hours worked increased 0.5 percent. (All quarterly percent changes in this release are seasonally adjusted annualized rates.)

    > Unit labor costs in the nonfarm business sector decreased 1.9 percent in the third quarter of 2025, reflecting a 2.9-percent increase in hourly compensation and a 4.9-percent increase in productivity. Unit labor costs increased 1.2 percent over the last four quarters.

  2. Folks should really try to unpack why US productivity grows consistently and everyone else’s does not, and why extreme geographical, cultural and regulatory closenness does not help at all like in Canada (worse absolute productivity than Italy and an ongoing 10 year stagnation).
