  1. Good 😌, putting all of our eggs in the American basket has proven, sadly and rather unexpectedly for us, myopic.

    girl why is this restricted?

    Anyway submission statement –

Despite Trump announcing the Donroe Doctrine where Washington will « deny non-Hemispheric competitors the ability to position forces or own or control strategically vital assets », Carney is going forward with a reset of ties with China.

This will absolutely come up in US-CA negotiations and further deterioriate the relationship of the former allies. CUSMA has almost no chance of being renewed if Carney truly does do a reset with China, which will have dramatic consequences on the Canadian economy.

It’s impossible to not have the US-Canadian economies inextricably linked as it stands. Still, if Canada does something like drop EV tariffs I wonder what the response from the US will be.

I understand wanting to pivot away from the US for the time being but I don’t know if you need to go straight to China.

  5. It makes sense for Canada to move towards diversifying. The US and Canada will always be major trade partners, that’s unavoidable, but each 0.1% of trade that’s moved to Europe or China is a little less economic leverage the US can wield against them.

It especially makes sense in this moment since CUSMA negotiations are in full swing. If nothing else, it’s a valuable signal to the US that Canada is willing to reduce trade ties.
