Article Summary: The US seized a Russian oil tanker carrying Venezuelan oil with impunity, showing the limitations of Moscow’s attempts to project power abroad. Russian influence (with the exception of Africa) has been steadily rolled up over the past 2 decades, with the near total collapse of the Moscow-Tehran-Damascus alliance in the Middle East. With Venezuela gone and Cuba teetering, Russia faces the total extirpation of their influence from the Americas.
If there’s one consistent trend in Trump’s foreign policy, it is that of American supremacy. America can do what it wills, and others suffer what they must. And despite Putin’s efforts, it is clear America sees Russia not as an equal, or even a peer. More tangibly, Russia faces a dire threat if America manages to tap Venezuela’s oil reserves. Oil and gas has been a lifeline for Putin’s regime, and the threat of cheap oil compiled with the seizing of Russian tankers may be a critical blow to Moscow’s coffers.

Putin reaping a multipolar world order
> Well this fucking sucks. What the fuck.

Not with BRICS still kicking, unfortunately.
A lot of Brasilians, right and left, young and old, are sympathetic to Russia and believe Ukraine is either a puppet for US imperialism or that Ukraine was always a part of Russia and what’s going on right now isn’t a big deal.
In short Russian propaganda is doing absolute aces in Brasil, the largest country in Latin America, and its influence isn’t set to go away any time soon.
And thanks to Trump, much of that propaganda is being backed up so people are feeling vindicated in their Russian sympathies.
Europe is the only thing that could maybe pull Brasil away from Russia’s sphere of influence but right now they’ve got bigger fish on their plate.
