Interesting article analysing the growth of the luxury industry in India and the challenges it potentially faces. Speaking from vibe, I feel that the Indian consumer has strong brand loyalty once developed but can take a long time to develop said brand loyalty. They’re also more conservative with purchases than Americans or Europeans from what I’ve seen. In addition as mentioned, luxury goods are simply cheaper to purchase abroad than in India due to high tariffs. Personally, I definitely have bought more nice designer clothes abroad than I have in India. Still, there’s strong growth opportunity due to the growing number of rich consumers in India.
