Looks like, we’re staring down two futures for AI and both are fishy.
the Silicon Valley Alliance (OpenAI & Google) wants the digital gulag.
total centralisation. They keep the god mode keys while we get the lobotomised, censored version through a browser. It’s a panopticon with a kill switch.
If you think the wrong thing, they just throttle your access.
then there’s the Meta/Open Source play. Models on every phone, no filters, no permission from Daddy Zuck. Sounds like the rebellion, right?
handing out unpatchable superintelligence to every basement hobbyist is the perfect setup for a catastrophe. One bioweapon incident and the state gets the Black Swan event they need for a permanent global lockdown.
Is this a choice or just two ways to the same ending?
One path keeps us as sheep in the pen; the other hands us flamethrowers so they have an excuse to burn the whole forest down.
if i had to choose though, I think a personal LLM is better than a monitored alternative.
