1. Summary
Facing heavy criticism from mainstream media outlets (Chosun-Jongang-Donga , three main newspapers of Korea which is dominated by right-wing media moguls ) over his planned tax on house hoarders and 60,000 new public housing, President Lee Jae-Myung is trying to why lower housing price is good to Korean public through active online activities & offline press events.
2. How is related to the sub
(1) NIMBY: chosun, Jongang and Donga in Korea are deeply upset by the government plan to lower housing price. They question why the government allows the stock to hit new high everyday while cracking down on high house price. They want to stop new tax on house hoarders and new public housing supply.
3. My opinion
The media narrative offered by Korean mainstream media against Lee’s new housing policy is just disgusting. The three major newspapers mentioned above are especially bad, ranting about why stock is allowed to go up while skyrocketing housing price is unfairly facing crackdown. Some even quote and repeat Trump’s claim that housing value should be preserved for pensioners. Korean media landscape is dumpster fire and being dominated by house hoarders and real estate speculators who want stock market to be destroyed so that money can returned to real estate market to raise housing price.
